Durability and Rutting Resistance of SBS-Modified Asphalt Mixtures Containing Blowdown as a Sustainable Filler

In the pursuit of a sustainable environment, and facing threat continuous growth solid waste in Iraq, this study investigated impact using blowdown, carbon-sulfur byproduct material sulfur purification, as mineral filler on durability rutting resistance dense-graded asphalt mixtures Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS)-modified asphalt. Three different blowdown rates (4%, 5%, 6% by weight aggregate) were used potential calcium carbonate (CaCO3) replacements. Laboratory tests parameters, including Marshall stability, indirect tensile strength, strength ratio (durability), deformation conducted, results analyzed statistically Minitab software. The showed that 5% SBS-modified increases at 25 °C, quotient 51.23%, 0.21%, 14.27%, 31.44%, respectively, compared to control mixture contains CaCO3 indicating may offer benefits such enhancing cracking while meeting properties moisture susceptibility standards provide financial advantages reduce landfill use.
